Llanddona is a small village located within the county of Anglesey, North Wales. Although it is home to just 700 people, there is an abundance of fun activities worthy of a day out no matter your age or interests. Let’s take a look!
1. Treasure hunt

This August, there is a treasure hunt taking place within the village. 5 golden boxes will be hidden in scenic places and notable spots within the village and it’ll be your job to find them!
These boxes will contain redeemable codes which can be used both online and in person depending on the merchant.
What can I expect to find in the box? – Each box has a value of £200.
There will be £50 to spend across all THG brands, including Lookfantastic, Myprotein, Coggles and many more! You can find the available list of brands here.
There will be £100 worth of gift vouchers from local businesses. One local business involved in the fun is Melin Llynon, so if you like chocolate or gin, then you won’t want to miss out!
There will also be £50 worth of tree planting in your name. This will be done through more:trees where through their platform you can plant trees towards a certain project that resonates most with you. As you plant more trees simply watch your own virtual forest grow! Don't want to plant them in your name? Not a problem, simply register a friend or family members details and plant it in theirs! What better way to support a local, rural community than ensuring trees are planted!

2. Take a trip to the local churches

The Llanddona Fundraiser has an aim to raise as many funds as possible to help the restoration and maintenance of St Dona’s & St Iestyn’s churches (you can donate on our website!)
These wonderful churches are steeped in history and well worth a visit if visiting Grade II buildings are on your to-do list. They are two of seven churches that make up a combined parish and date back as far as the 12th Century!
So, if history is your thing and you’re keen to learn a little more, then look no further than these two wonderful churches.
3. Llanddona Beach & Red Wharf Bay

Llanddona isn’t well known to many, and this is what has largely contributed to its untampered beauty. Red Wharf Bay beach is a true hidden gem and certainly one of North Wales’ most scenic walks.
If the scenery isn’t enough though, then you have the tale of The Llanddona Witches to keep you entertained…you can read up about this Welsh legend on the BBC website here.
4. Red squirrels
Red squirrel habitats are extremely rare within Britain. In England, there are estimated to be around 10,000 – 15,000, but here in Wales, the numbers are thought to be higher.
Mynydd Llwydiarth is one of Wales’ hot spots, so if you’re fancying a challenge then grab your camera, take some shots and send them to us on Instagram @llanddona_fundraiser and we’ll be sure to repost your images!
If you’re serious about going then we recommend checking out this blog post first. It informs you of how to get there, routes to walk on and advice for capturing shots of the elusive red squirrel!
5. Puffin Island
No one said catching photographs of red squirrels would be easy, but don’t pack away your camera just yet.
This is Wales’ 9th largest island and is located just off Anglesey. Thanks to spectacular scenery and an array of wildlife, thousands of people visit each year to see a range of different birds and wildlife.
Here’s some of the wildlife you can expect to see:
Puffins (as long as you attend during breeding season)
Fulmar and eider duck
Sometimes a black guillemot
Atlantic grey seals (cormorant and shags)
If you’re lucky, perhaps even a porpoise or dolphin!
For all necessary information on Puffin Island including directions, prices and other FAQs, you can check out their cruise website here.
6. Visit Aberlleiniog & Beaumaris Castles

If you haven’t got your history fix after visiting both the above churches, then Castell Aberlleiniog and Beaumaris Castles are the answers to your problems.
Known for being a ‘secretive’ Castell Aberlleiniog is constructed up a steep hill for tactical military reasons, there are many stories to uncover ranging from Welsh Princes, Norman overlords, Viking raiders, traitors, pirates, Civil War commanders, wealthy estate owners and Georgian naturalists!
Wales is well known for its castles, but few are encompassed with the surroundings of such natural beauty as this Castell Aberlleiniog. Like many areas in Angelsey, when visiting, you won’t be swamped with the crowds, costs and hassles you’d expect elsewhere.
Beaumaris Castle was built as part of Edward I’s campaign to conquer North Wales and was the last and the largest to be built of the castles. Although the castle wasn’t completed, it featured a concentric symmetrical design “castle within a castle” which made it a high point of military engineering for the time. It’s also one of the reasons it is classed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site!
7. Melin Tros-y-Marian Windmill
So then, all of these activities are tickling your fancy and you’re about to search for a nearby place to stay. Well, look no further than Melin Tros-y-Marian; a luxury windmill accommodation! If you haven’t stayed in a converted windmill before, then this is an absolute must!
Views, hot tubs and pet friendly; what more could you wish for? You can find out more details here.
Overall, Llanddona truly is one of those rare places where no matter your age or interests, there will be something to keep you entertained for the day!
